Warner Goodman LLP have been proudly working in partnership with Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association since 2014 to raise awareness and vital funds for the charity, and 2018 will be no different. Claire Battye, Commercial Property Partner, explains how National Down Syndrome Awareness Week will be supported this year, and how people across Hampshire can help.
“We started supporting Portsmouth DSA in 2014 when we ran a Facebook campaign during Down Syndrome Awareness Week,” begins Claire. “During the week, every new ‘like’ their Facebook page received, we donated £1 and the result was over 1,000 new likes to the page. We have continued with the campaign every March since then, raising the target to 2,000 new likes to the page. This combined with other activities such as the Great South Run, an abseil down the Spinnaker Tower, and their 10,000 foot skydive has meant we have raised over £12,000 for Portsmouth DSA since 2014; an amount we are incredibly proud of.”
The funds that have been raised by Warner Goodman have been invested in the charity’s School Advisory Service for children and schools; a service that helps the 65 schools the charity works with to build an effective educational setting to meet pupils with Down Syndrome’s individual needs. Rachael Ross, Founder of Portsmouth DSA, spoke of the partnership with the firm, “The support from Warner Goodman over the last five years has been invaluable. The Facebook campaign enables us to spread awareness about Down syndrome, and the work our charity does in the community, to a much wider audience than would usually be possible. As a self-funding children’s charity, the support we receive from Warner Goodman has been outstanding, and has made a real and positive difference to the lives of our families. We couldn’t ask for better charity partners!”
Down Syndrome Awareness Week this year runs from Monday 19th March to Sunday 25th March, and Warner Goodman will once again be donating £1 for every new like the Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association Facebook page received during this time.*
Claire concludes, “This year, the campaign will be expanded to not only include likes to the charity’s Facebook page but also new followers to their Twitter page. We’re delighted that we can support the charity for another year, and look forward to taking part in a variety of fundraising events with them throughout 2018.”
